PRE-EXPRESSIVITY & SCENIC PRESENCE

A Goossun Art-illery workshop in collaboration with Moven’act

Goossun Art-illery offers a four day workshop for performers (actors and dancers). The workshop is an introduction to Goossun Art-illery’s way of training performers, which is a result of Vahid’s study of the work of the twentieth century’s theatre reformers such as Stanislavski, Graig, Grotowski and Odin Teatret. It is both the technical aspect of the craft as well as the artistic and cultural vision of these reformers that link the heritage of these masters in Goossun Art-illery´s work. Vahid has studied their work for more than a decade through whatever possible means: books, photographs, films and through participation in and observation of the work of their pupils.

That in combination with Vahid’s direct and personal study with different teachers and prominent theatre practitioners such as Eugenio Barba, Augusto Boal, Akira Matsui, Augusto Omolú, as well as Vahid’s own personal research in Iran have motivated a certain need to search for a special way of training that focuses on developing individual technical solutions uniquely for each performer without trying to impose one homogenizing methodical approach to the craft of the performer.

The workshops have already successfully been carried out in London and Toronto.

All participants will be asked to fully memorize a short text, preferably in their own mother tongue, which will be used for exercises.

Please remember to bring comfortable training clothing and lunch.

The workshop will be carried out in English.

Goossun Art-illery practices theatre research internationally, in Denmark, the UK and beyond. This workshop is part of a series of workshops run by Goossun Art-illery during the spring and summer of 2009 as preparation for HamletZar. HamletZar is a research project and performance, based on Shakespeare’s Hamlet and the Middle Eastern possession cult Zar. The project is being developed over a total of eight residencies that will take place in Denmark, England, Scotland, Canada and the Middle East. Beginning in June 2009 the project will culminate in a performance production over 18 months, which will tour internationally.

Workshop participants may be invited to join one or more of the residencies, with the potential to take part in the final production.
